James bond movies ranked worst to best

Starting at the bottom
most rung number 26 at 26 we have never
seen never again
at the bottom I really dislike this film
from the completely out of sync opening
title song to the miserable anticlimax
of an ending to watch never say never
again is to be bored confused and will
just
sad really sad that Connery came back to
his iconic character to make this
knowing a lot about the background of
like how the movie came about and the
whole thing was basically just a big
middle finger to Ian Fleming Eon
Productions and producer could be
broccoli just how is the experience even
more it’s just the bitterness comes off
the screen it’s an unpleasant copycat of
a movie and I would argue the only Bond
movie that is almost completely
unwatchable so let’s not dwell on it a
longer and move on to what I consider to
be the worst film of the official series
number 25 Spectre has taken a while to
really settle in my ranking my
initial reaction was it was great but I
have some notes too it’s not really all
that great – Wow now I don’t even really
know what people like about this one at
best it’s bland and at worst it’s so
stupid you’re desperate for your own set
of tiny drills to burrow into your brain
to remove all memory of it the most
heinous of which is the whole bond
Blofeld brothers thing and trying to tie
Blofeld into the previous craig movies
all very dumb and not well execute and
don’t get me started on finish it Oh
check out my full review for a rundown
of why that’s so terrible but even
beyond that there isn’t a single action
sequence that really gets your blood
pumping they’re trying to force the idea
that Madeleine Swann is somehow James
Bond’s one true love and a whole that
falls so flat the nail in the coffin for
me for this one is that the Bond films
are played on TV here in the UK all the
time if you are channel flicking you are
more than likely to come across a Bond
film just through random you know
channel surfing at least once a week and
if you’re anything like me you know
sometimes if you know they’re halfway
through the Spy Who Loved Me or
Octopussy or Majesty’s Secret Service or
something if they’re at like a certain
point in the movie and I’m like oh yeah
there’s a really great action scene
coming up for a great dialogue scene or
a funny bit or something like that I’ll
keep it on and I’ll watch that scene and
then maybe I’ll stick around for the
rest of the movie or maybe I’ll keep on
but there’s always like I’ll always end
up watching a little chunk of it at
least
the thing with Spectre is even the
things that
I like in it which ain’t much I’m not
worth like sticking around for number 24
dropping down a couple of places and SAS
time is the 60s Casino Royale movie
spoof anyone who has seen this movie
will know it’s a complete mess
production issues and cast and crew walk
outs and no single shared vision of what
this movie was going to be throughout
the making of means that we have a
disjointed smorgasbord of great 60s
actors and actresses fumbling their way
through bizarre and often barely
sequential scenes however Casino Royale
is such an opulent and dazzlingly
photographed movie in places that I do
find it quite watchable most of the
jokes fall flat and a lot of the time
there isn’t even really a punchline to
most of them but there’s just something
hypnotic about the thing and a you know
to be honest I don’t know if that
quality translates to actual enjoyment
of it but I certainly don’t hate the
experience watching this movie number 23
you know Spectre really helped me poke
Quantum of Solace into perspective it
used to be my least favorite of the
official series now it’s my second least
favorite so remover progress the
difference between this and Spectre is
that quantum at least has a great David
Arnold score and some decent action even
if some of those action scenes so choppa
Lee edited it can be almost impossible
to tell what’s going on at times you
know I find Craig’s tenure is bond very
polarizing but spoiler alert but his
other two films are top tier Bond
adventures for me while this inspector
our official bond is its absolute worst
both films make the sin of trying to be
more than just a great film in their own
right they’re too concerned about world
building and forcing you to remember
other better movies bond has survived so
long because people can dip in and out
and all you need to know is that there’s
this English guy who gets sent on
exciting missions and that’s it it’s
simple and effective it doesn’t need to
be a cinematic universe or saga but
combine that with the fact that neither
this nor Spectre are terribly good even
taking that into account then you just
have a well about a couple of the worst
films in the series for my money
at number 22 its Ryan of the day a film
that honestly every time I watch it
surprises me with just how bad it is I
often pop in diner the day because in my
mind I remember is a film that while
obviously isn’t great is still
nonetheless a fun romp and you can kind
of laugh along at the badness because
it’s just a big old joyful mess of a
movie this is not true what rather the
film is just plain bad
I like the David Arnold score and some
of the action sequences are pretty
awesome and I just love the moment where
bond uses his ejector seat to flip the
Aston Martin right side up Brosnan’s
face as he does that is just so awesome
but nice music and the odd fun moment
don’t do much to elevate the film
especially in the second hour where
things just become really terrible hammy
performances hackneyed writing and an
attitude that bigger is better do not
serve the film well and you just switch
between feeling completely bored and
then outraged by the stupidity of what
you’re seeing on screen meaning that
dine of the day can’t even really be
enjoyed despite its sheer badness it’s
the worst kind of bad movie at number 21
we have a film I always feel so bad
about putting solo in these rankings but
my opinion still stands I think dr. know
is a good film and a fun romp and from
this point on in the list I think
there’s a lot to be enjoyed in every
film in the series there’s a huge leap
in quality between diner the day and
this but the thing that lets doctor know
down for me is that it just feels very
vanilla I think other films are able to
improve on the formula and so I like all
of those more but there’s still much to
be enjoyed here of course from Connery’s
incredible performance to the dry dark
humour in the writing to the gorgeous
locations and the movie star enigma of
Ursula Andress it’s all good stuff just
as a whole it’s improved upon over the
future films in the series the
choppiness that the editing bothers me a
lot and the music isn’t great there are
a lot of production issues that I can
point to that hinder my enjoyment but
still a fun romp as is the next film on
my list coming in at 20 this along with
the man with the Golden Gun and diamonds
are forever really shifts around in my
ranking quite a lot those are three
films that I have to be in just the
right mood for and unfortunately for
view to a kill this was not one of those
times
despite being my favorite
double-oh-seven Rajyam
is no longer remotely convincing as
double-oh-seven and every time there’s
an action sequence or indeed any time
that James Bond isn’t sitting down or
standing still it’s so painfully obvious
that younger fitter men are doing the
part it just feels so unauthentic not
that I necessarily require my Bond
actors to be performing death-defying
stunts themselves but in this film in
particular the stunt doubles are quite
bothersome the film just feels like a
final wheeze from a much-loved and loyal
hound the contrast between Moore and the
mi6 gang and the young quirky villains
and girls is just too much I would have
preferred them to go down some kind of
paternal route with Bond and Stacey
instead of the romantic route that they
end up doop that they do end up going
down I suppose I wish they’d signaled it
as mores last hurrah rather than just to
trying to keep up the business as usual
routine I mean you know what Wolken and
Jones are a fantastic pair and Moore is
you know ever reliable in the role he’s
always a joy to watch I just wish that
the film had been tailored around his
age more and acknowledged it instead of
just ignoring it at 19 Thunderball is a
movie I have never gotten along well
with unlike lots of movies on this list
which go up and down over the years this
one just used to always be in the bad
tier for me but well my most recent
viewing I must say I actually enjoyed
the experience of Thunderball admittedly
it was a very cozy night in with a
couple of Bourbons no ice but this is
really the the first time I’ve come to
appreciate a lot of what Thunderball
brings that’s not to say it doesn’t have
flaws of course I mean all the criticism
I make against in my full review of the
movie still stand the plot is simple and
dull and full of holes there are too
many characters and I think Largo and
Domino are quite boring and so on but
this time I think I was just in the
right mood to go with it the music is so
lovely and the film looks stunning I
know that this was the first Bond film
to go for the you know the widescreen
aspect ratio but just the quality of the
image is so silky and gorgeous I loved
the time capsule aspect of the film I
just like seeing this part of the world
caught on film and some of my favorite
bits are really just when characters
out and about walking on the street or
down by the beach I certainly don’t
think I’ll ever be holding this up as
one of the top tier Bond movies and you
know what I think it’s overrated but hey
I had a good time with Thunderball this
time and I look forward to doing so
again on to number 18 you know I guess
I’m just not a huge fan of Terrence
young films like I know that he’s lauded
as one of the key people in creating the
cinematic bond and of course I agree
with that but that doesn’t mean I have
to like his movies as much as some of
the others whenever we see a Terrence
young film and I’ve seen several of his
films outside of the Bond series but
whenever I see one of his movies I just
feel like I’m watching second-rate
Hitchcock and that’s kind of how I feel
watching From Russia With Love this is
one that I wish I liked more I really
really wish From Russia With Love was
higher on this list and you know after
enough time has passed I’m gonna think
back to this one and be like yeah it’s
one of the greats I always do it I
always think back to From Russia With
Love is being kind of top-10 material
but when I actually get down to watching
it not so much
Connery looks and acts perfectly as
double-oh-seven no doubt about it and
the villainous Spectre team are all
perfectly cast and the plot is great I
love how much of it is set on the Orient
Express but those train sequences are
really the only parts of the movie that
I truly love everything else now the
time spent at the gypsy camp drags and
all the action after the train feels
tacked on and it’s especially during the
helicopter scene an obvious lift from
North by Northwest that I just fold my
arms and wish that Alfred Hitchcock
himself had directed this film Terence
Young’s movies while undoubtably
contributing hugely to the creation of
the cinematic legacy that is James Bond
just always feel a little flap – to me I
get the sense from interviews with cast
and crew that young like to make
moviemaking into a party and a great
experience for all and stuff so I’m sure
that being on the set was amazing but
watching the movies a lot of the time
I’m just like wow maybe if you’d have
planned and shot that better or
differently you wouldn’t need to speed
up the footage so much or juncker or
whatever I don’t know the production
behind his movies stands out too much to
me when I watch them and it does hinder
enjoyment some
I mean regardless of all that From
Russia With Love is a great spy story
and essential viewing for all
double-oh-seven fans it’s just one that
I wish I enjoyed the experience of
watching a bit more speaking of films I
wish I liked more number 17 and down
is The Living Daylights this is another
film where there’s a like a good chunk
of it that I really really love for
daylight’s it’s from the sniper section
all the way through to the Astin chase
and the cello case escape that whole
section is phenomenally good but from
that point on it just gets a little dull
and drags for me I think a large part of
it is that it lacks any kind of
interesting villain Whittaker is a poor
main baddie and he does drag the film
down somewhat but aside from that I
think there’s just a general sense of
fatigue about the formula and style that
you can feel emanating from the screen
despite the energetic new lead in Dalton
the film still feels like it’s cut from
the same cloth as the previous three
films barring a few moments of increased
intensity and while that might have been
fine if it were another Roger Moore film
this one should probably have changed
something else up it added an extra
layer of spice be that you know a change
of director or change to the
cinematographer or the writer or
something just something to make this
feel more like a fresh start across the
board but saying that Dalton does a good
job with his new take on the character
even if they really only make the most
of that with the next Dalton Bond film
number 16
die hard one fans will notice of course
but whenever the double-oh-seven film
series feels like it has gotten a bit
too big a bit too outrageous a bit too
expensive it performs something of the
soft reboot and makes a point of being
more grounded once again and while I
think that move produced exceptional
films in Majesty’s Secret Service and
Casino Royale the or eyes-only has never
really been a favorite of mine like the
other John Glenn directed films in the
series there’s something about this one
that just feels and looks a bit belt
cheap I guess and the script also feels
very much like but someone went to film
school to do a masters and came back and
told everyone that hey
you know a lot of films of something
called a character journey maybe we
should try one of those which results in
a sort of mixed message about revenge
which bond is against some reason I’d
know that part of the story has always
bothered me however on my latest rewatch
I feel like I’ve never truly fully
appreciated quite how exceptional Moore
is in this one it’s his fifth film and
he’s a totally he’s totally at ease in
the role but one of the best aspects of
theorise only is that while maintaining
something of a lighter tone it gives
more some pretty hard or emotional
moments I think that Roger is actually
the best Bond actor when it comes to the
more emotional moments and precisely
because he really just contain and guard
the emotion he’s incredibly understated
as I think James Bond would be but just
in his eyes in his face you really get
the emotion without his needing to
overact I think it’s a tremendous skill
that Moore has and one of the best
aspects of fuel rise only along with one
of the best car chases in the entire
series at number 15 we have the first
non mover on the list from last time the
man with the golden cone maintains its
position and you might ask why I mean
you know what sure this is one of the
least regarded movies in the series but
I can have fun with it if I’m in the
right mood Christopher Lee is
exceptional as is Herve Villechaize and
I’m even a fan of Sheriff JW pepper so
having him along for a car chase is
something I take a lot of Glee and I
also quite like Britt Ekland Mary
goodnight is one of the most hopeless
Bond girls but she’s pretty funny
because of it the music is great too
this certainly isn’t a Bond film to get
your blood pumping but it can be a very
enjoyable fun wash on the more negative
side more is made to do a lot of very
uncomfortable things and this is his
weakest performance as bond by a mile
less so because of him but because of
what the script asks of him hitting
women and then layering at one on a bed
while another isn’t a closet being low
points but also the tonal inconsistency
regarding Maude Adams character really
bothers me though that character is in a
completely different movie to everyone
else this poor trapped vulnerable person
is abused and taken advantage of and
ultimately killed
in an admittedly chilling fashion but
there’s no empathy in the script or
direction for her it’s a shame because
in a more serious Bond film that could
have been explored well and I think we
get that in a later installment but here
it just adds to the odd kettle of you
know enjoyable fish that is the man with
the Golden Gun
number 14 Oh would you look at that
another not terribly well regarded movie
that’s quite high on this list diamonds
goes up and down for me but I really
really liked it on the last couple of
viewings I had again this is not an
outstanding action movie or thriller
it’s really more of a comedy than
anything but it features some of the
wittiest dialogue in the entire series
for my money
Connery doesn’t really look the part as
much as he used to but he’s such a
magnetic screen presence that it almost
doesn’t matter his eyes are so
expressive some of my favorite moments
in the film are just when he’s looking
and reacting to things going on around
him Tiffany cases one of my favorite
Bond girls and this version of Blofeld
is my guilty pleasure blow folk the film
loses camp and a little bit of laziness
and I kind of dig that it lacks glamour
and great action set-pieces but for a
lazy Sunday afternoon where you just
want a relaxing comedic Bond film
diamonds makes for great viewing number
13 without a doubt my perception of
license to kill has shifted over time I
used to really hate this movie and I
think at some point I’d even go so far
as to claim it was the worst Bond movie
which was totally unfair and I’m
actually embarrassed by some of those
old comments about this one when now I’m
prepared to say it’s Timothy Dalton’s
best Bond film and beyond that just a
pretty great action romp in its own
right not saying it’s without flaws of
course there’s still a couple of points
where I think the violence just gets a
little bit too gory for its own good and
it’s too long and oh just that damn
winking fish but overall I really liked
that this one has its own feel and
identity at times it does feel too much
like a generic 80s action movie rather
than a Bond film but what bond does in
this movie and how it’s driven by his
close friendship with felix leiter is
really great Carey Lowell I absolutely
love as Bond girl Pam boovie
and there are some nice quirky
characters throughout the movie Michael
Kaman score is awesome – and that tanker
Chase at the end oh my goodness that is
just one of the very best action scenes
in the whole series
Dalton himself is really great here – in
living daylights he’s just a bit awkward
with some of the Roger holdover lines
and situations but this film feels
pretty tailored to what he could do best
and he thrives in it the intensity that
he brought and that felt out of place in
living daylights really works here I’ll
be revisiting license to kill again very
soon and I’m really happy to have had a
moment of rediscovery with something
familiar to me in this series number 12
Lewis Gilbert’s first Bond movie is such
a classic double-oh-seven adventure it
has everything the elements demand
beautiful girls iconic villains exotic
locations gadgets cars and one of the
best villains layers in the whole series
I absolutely adore that volcano set and
honestly I could watch an entire movie
just watching people walk around in it
it’s in saying that this thing was built
and worked and it’s just amazing it’s
the best part of the film without a
doubt but even leading up to the volcano
battle is super fun I think it’s nice
just appreciating the cinematography and
seeing parts of Japan court at a moment
in time like this is one of the movies
where the travel log aspect really adds
a lot it’s a shame that Connery looks
pretty disinterested throughout if he’d
have brought his AGame
this would have been God Tyr bond but as
it stands it’s still one of the best
installments number 11 I think
Octopussy isn’t unfairly maligned film
in the series I’m always really
surprised when I see at low ranking
another Bond fans list and then I
remember that not everyone thinks that
this is a great Bond adventure like I do
another movie where the setting worked
so well I think this is the best
photographed of John Glenn’s Bond movies
and also the best spy thriller of the
law I loved all the stuff at the end
with the nuke and the diamonds on the
train and pair that with some fun in the
jungle with Bond entering into a most
dangerous game kind of scenario and I am
a very happy Bond fan Maude Adams and
Roger Moore make for a wonderful pair
and I think that genuine chemistry makes
her the best Bond girl pairing of
Moore’s tenure I loved the assortment of
villains here too unlike Living Dead
like each one here is some special
quirkiness this understated Louise
Jordan and his silky smooth camel con
could be a Betty’s Cabinda is
immediately threatening and enigmatic
the guy’s such a scene stealer and only
has to do is stand there but oh my dazed
why look Steven Berkoff or should that
be Steven Berkoff he plays it so broad
and I just love when he randomly bellows
out the occasional word in the middle of
a sentence for little to no reason he’s
so insane I love it Octopussy isn’t the
guilty pleasure that some fans would
have you believe I think it’s a
genuinely underrated spy thriller and a
great couple of hours of enjoyment
starting off the top ten is okay so on
the subject of guilty pleasures I don’t
know if I can really defend Moonraker as
being anything more than that but geez I
just have so much love for this movie of
course as this is the first Bond film I
ever saw it has a special place in my
heart but beyond that I just think it’s
an outrageously fun bit of entertainment
I can understand how some people would
find it a little slow I think it could
have been edited a bit tastier and the
music in some places could have been a
bit more exciting to punch up the action
but those criticisms aside Moonraker
features some of my favorite things in
the series Drax and Goodhead is villain
and Bond girl respectively for example I
love love love the set design can Adam
does it again creating one of the very
best villains bases of the entire series
all the space stuff is fantastic so what
if bond goes sci-fi at this point in the
series it doesn’t feel at all out of
place while Jon Berry’s skull lets down
some of the action scenes I think that
in parts its were actually one of the
most beautiful scores in the series oh
and there’s of course the double take
pigeon it has the double take pigeon for
goodness sake one of everyone’s favorite
Bond characters along with noble looking
dog and recurring drunk man but yes moon
Rica is outrageous I get that it isn’t
for everyone but for me it’s a glorious
romp at number nine we have one of the
more agreeable films amongst the fandom
Live and Let Die was a fantastic debut
bond film for Roger Moore it’ll take him
up until his third film to be completely
comfortable in the role but I’d argue
he’s better here than he would be in the
man with the golden
it’s a Bond film with its own identity
thanks to the Voodoo themes and the
music as well like Octopussy it’s a film
with an awesome ensemble of villains
Yaphet Kotto and all of his underlings
are so great in their own ways but
especially Jeffrey holder as Baron
Samedi on top of that the action is just
fantastic as well the speedboat chase
being up high light of course and for
how long that particular sequence is
this incredibly well paced I mean show
sheriff pepper kind of takes over the
show for a bit but I’ve already said
before I’m a big fan of that character I
just love seeing Clifton James doing his
shtick
there are several Bond films in the
Canon that are really more than just
movies they were essential points of
success in the franchise that ensured
the continued success and production of
more movies after diamonds are forever
things were kind of ropey could the
series survive without Connery well of
course it could as Live and Let Die
aptly proves that’s number eight much
like Octopussy this is one of the
forever watchable Bond movies for me I’m
very rarely not in the mood for Tomorrow
Never Dies and now I’ve talked a lot
about the music but David Arnold’s score
here is just so fantastic it’s a
beautiful accompaniment to the film and
helps turn it into a fantastic action
movie definitely more than a thriller or
spy adventure I mean Brosnan wielding
double machine guns and explosion after
explosion after explosion do you bring a
lot more balls to the wall action than
the series is used to but when the
action is as well done as it is here I’m
good to roll with that every once in a
while the car chase in the multi-story
car park is an absolute highlight of the
movie and it’s already full of really
impressive action sequences and while
bond and Waylon don’t have much
chemistry as characters together I think
she makes for an excellent action
focused companion and one of the best
Bond girls as a result of that I mean to
be honest I’d rather they just removed
the romantic aspect of their
relationship completely but c’est la vie
and see what you will about the miss
casting of Paris Carver and in my
opinion this should either have been a
recast Sylvia Trench or bring back carry
law from license to kill to do Pam
Bouvier again but you know I appreciate
what they were trying to do with this
character and you know to have bond come
up against a former flame I mean he’ll
the Brosnan films get a lot of stick but
at least the first three tried to do
interesting things with the formula I
mean
ringing back a former colleague of bombs
to be the villain and then have him meet
up with an old flame here and then half
the Bond girl turn out to be the Bond
villain in the world is not enough I
mean you know I I think those are
interesting concepts and you know maybe
not completely well-executed but it
still adds a nice little bit of flavor
to the movie Tamar never dies never gets
old for me one of my very favorites
number seven now here’s a wonderful spy
thriller on Her Majesty’s Secret Service
is just so so great and it’s it gets so
much acclaim now that it’s like it
always used to be the underdog in the
series the forgotten one as it were but
now it’s quite rightly praised as one of
the very best films in the series the
filmmaking here is something special and
unique in the series yeah there’s still
the jump cuts and annoying old-fashioned
techniques but under the direction of
Peter hunt these techniques for the most
part actually work exceptionally well
fight scenes for example play out in
some cases with little sense of
geography or consistency from shot to
shot but it doesn’t matter because it
works here it’s the first Bond film in
the series where the direction is really
standing up and waving at you and saying
coolly over here I had something
beautiful to show you and sometimes you
know the films that can be pretentious
and annoying see Quantum of Solace but
here it all just works the only major
weakness as I’ve said time and time
again is lows and bees like of acting
abilities which he might have gotten
away with had the scripts not been
forcing him to play Bond playing another
character and then have his voice dubbed
on top of that I just don’t think
Lazenby could convey the subtlety in
such a thing and the dubbing just
confounds the matter further but when
everything else around him is working to
such a high standard it doesn’t reduce
the impact of a phenomenal bit of
filmmaking I really wish Peter Hunt had
had the opportunity to make more Bond
films but you know what as a one-hit
wonder in that role in the series he did
a pretty damn swell job
number six okay so now for me we’re in
the absolute God tier of Bond films each
one of these six films is just
absolutely phenomenal and an absolute
favorite
starting with Goldfinger the standard by
which all that follow would be judged
Goldfinger is such a joy with everyone
both behind and in front of the camera
on top of their creative games the film
is so full of delightful invention and
it loves reveling in it director guy
Hamilton talks in interviews about how
he loved playing with the audience and
surprising the audience teasing the
audience exciting the audience and he
really does achieve all of those things
here seen upon scene is full of fun and
discovery and all led by Connery on
absolute top forms double-oh-seven he
really doesn’t get any better than this
and just how he is able to play this
with just the right amount of rice smirk
to let the audience in on the gag but
also to sweat and struggle when the
story demands it we still feel
excitement and suspense in those moments
despite the levity elsewhere and that’s
a hard balance in some films in the
series that balance tips too far one way
or the other
here it’s a perfect cocktail and you
know I really can’t praise gorobets
Goldfinger enough either I think he’s
the best Bond villain in the series on a
black man’s [ __ ] and haraldson Carter
Assad job are also phenomenal they’re
all absolute movie stars and it’s
impossible to know when to look when
those three and Connery of sharing
scenes together because each one of them
has such a presence it’s such a
fantastic movie I know it’s really lame
and old hat to use gold metaphors when
it comes to describing Goldfinger but
gold standard is really just the best
way to describe it at number five it’s
the movie that I often get to ride it
over the most for ranking so highly I
love the well designer always have in
spite of the things that objectively
speaking might not work but just as with
Tomorrow Never Dies the action here is
so kinetic and scored so wonderfully
that it’s one of my very favorite action
movies ever Brosnan is also on absolute
top form here this is his best
performance as James
I love him and sophie marceau together
there are times when their chemistry may
not work totally but I by James Bond
falling in love with Electra and just
the very notion that the Bond girl turns
out to be the main villain of the movie
not just some hench person is absolutely
fantastic the series should have more
lead female villains as far as I’m
concerned and you know what I’m also and
out of my hands and say that I don’t
dislike Denise Richards as nuclear
physicist Christmas Jones I think she’s
perfectly fine in the role I just really
like and appreciate how this film felt
like it was creating a little Brosnan
universe bringing back Michael kitchen
and Colin salmon and especially Robbie
Coltrane really helps with that not
saying that I want some big you know
Spectre like interweaving but enough to
make a dedicated fan feel rewarded and a
casual viewer doesn’t need to know that
the zukovsky was a character from a
previous movie you know Brosnan gets a
lot of stick these days and I think it’s
most unfair he’s a great actor and this
film displays his talents better than
any other film in the series and I think
if you can just roll with it it’s a
really great piece of entertainment
number four I feel like it’s something
of a disservice to the Spy Who Loved me
that it only comes at number four on
this list to say it is a quintessential
Bond adventure and one that excels in
pretty much everything it tries to
accomplish more for example is so good
here it’s a testament to him that the
critical and commercial drooping Golden
Gun received when it came out didn’t
dampen his spirits in fact on the
contrary he is back on absolute fighting
form in this movie surrounding him are
excellent action set-pieces and a
compelling story as well as that there
are so many fantastic characters in the
movie I mean jaws is an iconic villain
Barbara back is a terrific Bond girl and
a completely new thing for the series
she’s presented as bombs equal and
opposite number which provides the duo
with some nice back-and-forth and
competition after reading the original
novels who really appreciate how much
the movies don’t make too many
assumptions about characters
nationalities to Fleming pretty much
being Russian or German or Chinese or
Korean or being descended from any one
of those nationalities pretty much just
defined you as a bad guy and could be
in the film makers were a lot more
forward-thinking adapted to the times he
abondon a massive a must work together
towards a common goal
United in that same goal and it works so
well the grayness of the spy world some
of the action in this movie is just
phenomenal the loaders chase being
something of a highlight in the battle
aboard the the Paris of course it’s such
a classic I say along with Goldfinger
and it’s a you know essential viewing
for anyone who wants to experience a
textbook example of classic Bond
adventures that’s number three the
biggest surprise for me when I revisited
my list from way back when was how low
this version of Casino Royale was I mean
perhaps I just never really appreciated
the movie properly because I’ve watched
it about four or five times since then
and it’s probably the most polished best
written film in the series I mean
everything works so well in the
chemistry between Daniel Craig and Eva
Green is beyond anything else in the
series they are so perfect together and
as a result of that the emotional line
of the film just well I mean to say it
works is an understatement it absolutely
excels this is the most emotional Bond
movie in the entire series and I would
say you know Vespa dying hits me in the
chest more than Tracy dying does and on
Her Majesty’s Secret Service and that’s
saying something because like tear up at
that scene every time to say that the
film is largely centered around a card
game there’s an incredible amount of
excitement it I mean even the card game
itself is so phenomenally photographed
and edited and paced I mean it did you
it’s fantastic the sequence at Miami
Airport and the freerunning bit at the
starts as well are also highlights the
movie is just so good that you don’t
resent there being like you know there’s
such a lack of gadgets or a lack of Bond
theme a lack of the classic Bond Ian
elements and I think it took me a while
to get used to that it’s a stunning
movie but there are two more that just
hit my own personal preferences that a
little bit more
number two you’re expecting someone else
this is the first time in using a Z is
that gold and I has been something other
than my absolute favorite Bond movie and
don’t get me wrong it’s demotion from
the top spot is not because of any new
floor I’ve discovered in it or anything
like that I still stand by this as a
Bond movie that does everything right
except the music but everything else is
Zeus you burbly done it’s impossible not
to adore this movie Pierce Brosnan is so
confident in the role and while he does
improve as his films go on I think that
it’s an outstanding debut and the best
performance of a Bond actor in his debut
outing Pierce just is bond to me in this
installment I loved everything about how
he plays that he hits all the classic
beats surrounding him as some of my
favorite characters in the whole series
Isabela score up ko as Natalia has
always been a Bond girl I adore to
rebellion is a superb villain sticking
with my point about how the first three
Brosnan films give us something new and
exciting each time the development that
the main Bond villain ends up being an
ex-colleague of bonds as a masterstroke
double O six versus double-oh-seven
couldn’t be more perfect then your honor
Tov is my favorite hench person of the
whole series and that same something
when she’s in a movie with Boris and/or
Ahmad I never tire of this movie Martin
Campbell is probably the best director
in the series I mean when you consider
his hit rate he orchestrated two of the
absolute best films in the series and
should be applauded for that however
nothing is sacred and now I will do my
best to explain my top pick and why it
has earned the number one spot on this
list and so we reach number one often
when talking about these movies we will
talk about the categories so the Bond
girl the villain car the gadgets all
that kind of stuff and I actually came
to realize that for the longest time my
ranking of these films has been based
almost mathematically on those elements
and so I found this view through quite
liberating because I was just enjoying
the film’s individually on their own
merits as films and the most liberating
part of that was coming to realize that
my favorite Bond film is
now Skyfall this is not a film that
features my favorite villain or car
chase or gadgets or musical scores I
mean there isn’t even really a proper
Bond girl in it there’s no standout
hench person and Daniel Craig isn’t even
my favorite Bond actor but despite all
that I find watching Skyfall and
eminently exciting engaging and hugely
entertaining experience I have seen this
film so many times and I still just love
it every minute I mean it looks gorgeous
almost every frame is a delight and the
dialogue is so spot-on the action
sequences are some of my absolute
favorites in any film and I find the
central drama between bond and M to be
incredibly compelling I think I’ve ended
up watching this a lot because it’s a
real crowd-pleaser of a Bond film it’s
one that people who aren’t major fans
talk about with a lot of fondness and I
like that I’ve shown this film to many
people who aren’t really that into bond
and they’ve always loved it when I’m
visiting relatives and you know we want
to watch a movie Skyfall is often a
often a go-to and I never get bored of
it I’m always in the mood to watch
Skyfall and you know there are a lot of
Bond films where you have to be in the
right frame of mind to get the most out
of it
not Skyfall for me I can watch it when
I’m having a good day when I’m having a
bad day but morning noon evening when
I’m sick when I’m well when I’m alone or
when I’m with people be that family or
friends and that’s what warrants it
number one spot on this list for me so
that’s a bit of a turnip for the books
isn’t it I wasn’t quite expecting that
going into this ranking again I just you
know every time anyone asks me like what
is your favorite Bond film I would say
Goldeneye so I just became so used to
that and actually on the watch through
now like I watched Skyfall and Goldeneye
again each like close back-to-back you
know what I like I finished watching the
rest of films in the series just to see
if I hadn’t been delirious or something
but yeah you know what my top Bond film
has changed for the first time in years
and I’m curious to know if that has
happened to anyone else.
