Homemade Dog Treat Recipe: Peanut Butter and Sweet Potato Biscuits

    dog training guide

If you’re looking for a simple and budget-friendly treat recipe that both you and your furry friend will love, look no further! These homemade dog biscuits require only three ingredients and are sure to be a hit with your canine companion.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup oat flour (or whole wheat flour)
    • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (no additives)
    • 1/2 cup cooked sweet potato, mashed (or unsweetened pumpkin puree)

    Instructions:

    1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and prepare a baking tray with parchment paper.
    2. Mix together the mashed sweet potato and natural peanut butter in a bowl. Ensure the peanut butter contains no sweeteners or additives.
    3. Add the flour to the wet ingredients. If using oat flour, you can easily make it yourself by grinding quick or rolled oats into a fine powder using a food processor. If your dog isn’t sensitive to wheat, you can opt for whole wheat flour.
    4. Combine the flour with the wet ingredients until fully incorporated. The dough may be slightly sticky, but it should be manageable to roll out. If too dry, add a splash of water or oat milk. If too sticky, add more flour.
    5. Transfer the dough to a silicone mat or sheet of wax paper. Roll it out to a thickness of between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch. Using a biscuit cutter or knife, cut out your desired treat shapes.
    6. Place the cut-out treats onto the prepared baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes. For softer treats, bake for 10-12 minutes; for crunchier treats, bake for 15 minutes.
    7. Allow the treats to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week, or freeze them for up to two months.

    Notes:

    • Sweet potatoes can be substituted with unsweetened pumpkin puree if your dog dislikes them.
    • Ensure the peanut butter used does not contain xylitol, as it can be toxic to dogs.
    • Always monitor your dog for any adverse reactions to new foods, especially if they have known allergies.

These homemade treats are not only delicious but also offer a healthier alternative to store-bought options. Enjoy baking and bonding with your pup over these tasty biscuits!
